New York State Burn Ban

March 1, 2026

🚫🔥 New York State Residential Brush Burning Ban Begins March 16 🔥🚫

The Pleasant Valley Fire District would like to remind residents that the New York State residential brush burning ban will be in effect March 16 through May 14, 2026.

This statewide regulation is designed to reduce the risk of wildfires during the spring season when dry conditions make fires more likely to spread.

📅 Ban Dates:
March 16 – May 14, 2026

🚫 What is Prohibited:
• Burning sticks, branches, leaves, and brush

✅ What is Allowed:
• Small cooking or campfires less than 3 feet high and 4 feet in length, using clean, untreated wood only
• In towns with populations under 20,000 (like Pleasant Valley), burning tree limbs and branches less than 6 inches in diameter

⚠️ Year-Round Rules:
• Burning garbage or leaves is always prohibited in New York State

We ask all residents to follow these regulations to help prevent brush fires and protect our community.

For more information, please visit the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) website.

🔥 When in doubt — don’t burn.

Stay safe, Pleasant Valley!
