The Pleasant Valley Fire District stands together with other fire districts, departments and companies across New York State in mourning the line of duty death of Michael J. Ryan, of the Phoenicia Fire Department on December 13, 2025.

Firefighter Ryan was part of a crew from the Phoenicia Fire Department that responded to the call for an injured hiker in the town of Shandaken around 5:30 p.m. Saturday

Firefighter Ryan, a retired Kingston police officer, US Air Force veteran, 45 year active firefighter and Fire Commissioner dedicated his life to protecting and saving others.

We wish to extend our deepest condolences to our brothers and sisters in the Phoenicia Fire Department and to all his family and friends. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

We pray you all heal together and never forget his ultimate sacrifice. Godspeed brother!
