| The pending demolition of the former NAPA building on Main Street gave Pleasant Valley Fire District firefighters an excellent opportunity for real life training.
Members were able to throw ladders, breach cement block walls and practice ventilation skills by cutting open the roof.
Firefighters need to practice these skills in a realistic environment, and an old building that's slated for demolition is the perfect place to do it.
It allows us to use tools and techniques we would use in a real fire without the risk of damaging a currently occupied structure.
It's a win-win: the firefighters get valuable, hands-on experience, and the building is prepared for demolition. |
