February 1, 2021

A Winter Storm Warning from the National Weather Service remains in effect through Tuesday, February 2nd for Dutchess County and surrounding communities. Snowfall has increased to a rate of snowfall of 2 to 3 inches per hour is expected late this afternoon and early evening, with potential wind gusts up to 40 MPH.

As storm conditions worsen, road conditions will be hazardous and residents are strongly advised against travel.

The Town of Pleasant Valley Highway Department, Dutchess County Department of Public Works and the New York State Department of Transportation road crews have been efficient in keeping up with snowfall on town and county roadways and will continue clearing roadways through the night.

Again, individuals are advised to remain off the roads as it will become much more difficult for road crews to keep up with the increased rate of snowfall.

* Metro-North will suspend services this afternoon, with the final trains leaving Grand Central Terminal at 3pm.

* Dutchess County 911 Communications Center call volume has been within normal limits throughout the day.

* The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports only a small increase in the number of auto related accidents or disabled vehicles as motorists heed guidance to avoid travel.

* Governor Cuomo has declared a State of Emergency for the Hudson Valley and while there are no specific travel bans at this time, the
Governor’s announcements notes portions of key roadways, including I-84, may face travel bans if snowfall rate reaches between 2 -3 inches per hour.

Your Pleasant Valley Fire District remains ever vigilant during the storm and will be there to help if needed.
