EASTER SUNDAY FIRE BRINGS OUT PLEASANT VALLEY FIREFIGHTERS
On Sunday, April 9th at approximately 3:15 pm, the Pleasant Valley Fire District was dispatched for a chimney fire on Cottage Street in Salt Point. Firefighters responding to the alarm were notified by police that there was an active fire in the walls of the home with all of the occupants already out.
Firefighters entered the home and found a smoke condition on the first floor and in the attic. Using thermal imaging cameras it was determined that the fire was confined to the outside of the structure behind the chimney. At the same time additional firefighters deployed a hand line to the back of the building and Ladder 56-45 was used to access the chimney.
The siding was removed to get to the fire and the blaze was quickly knocked down. After careful overhaul the fire was declared fully extinguished after about 45 minutes. Fortunately there were no injuries to people or to animals. Pleasant Valley personnel cleared the scene at about 4:30 pm..
Pleasant Valley would like to thank the Arlington Fire District, Empress EMS, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, and the New York State Police for their assistance during the incident. The Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response Dispatchers and personnel also provided crucial support.
The Pleasant Valley Fire District would like to remind residents to have their chimneys regularly cleaned and inspected, and to always have an evacuation plan in case of emergencies. |
