| While Memorial Day marks the start of summer barbecues, family vacations, and trips down to the shore, it's important to remember the true reason we commemorate the holiday.
Today is the most expensive holiday on a calendar. Every hotdog, every burger, every spin around the lake, or drink with friends and family is a debt purchased by others.
This one is in honor of those who paid the ultimate price, in life and blood, whose mothers never saw them again, whose dads wept in private, whose wives raised kids alone, and whose kids only remember them from pictures.
This isn't simply a day off. This is a day to remember that others paid for every free breath we get to take...freedom.
This Memorial Day, the members of the Pleasant Valley Fire District remember and honor all the U.S. military personnel who have died while serving in the United States armed forces, fighting for our freedom and our country. May they rest in peace...
