Tropical Storm Henri

August 21, 2021

Tropical Storm Henri is expected to strengthen into a hurricane over the Atlantic today and will track toward the Northeast, most likely making landfall on Long Island near hurricane strength late Sunday.

Latest radar shows movement away from our area. Henri has turned north-northeastward and its forward speed will increase as it tracks generally northward Saturday. This more northerly track will be influenced by the steering from a ridge of high pressure over the north-central Atlantic and an upper-level disturbance over the eastern U.S.

A turn back toward the north-northwest is expected by Saturday night which may bring it back the our area. Residents of the area should monitor Henri's progress closely since it may bring wind and rain to parts of our region late this weekend into early next week.

Here are some pre-hurricane safety and preparations tips..
