The Pleasant Valley Fire District is proud to remember and honor U.S. Army Specialist Edward “Hoppy” Fischer, a Vietnam veteran who dedicated his life to serving others.

Hoppy bravely served our country in Vietnam before returning home to Pleasant Valley, where he continued his commitment to helping others as a member of the Pleasant Valley Fire Department for 22 years.

Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino and Veterans Affairs Director Adam Roche recently joined the community at the Pleasant Valley Fire Department for the County’s monthly “Honor-A-Veteran” ceremony, recognizing Hoppy’s military service, dedication to his community, and lasting legacy.

Although Hoppy passed away in 1999, his courage, kindness, and commitment to others continue to be remembered by those whose lives he touched. He was a proud veteran, a dedicated firefighter, a loving husband, a devoted father, and a cherished friend.

The Pleasant Valley Fire District is honored to remember and recognize Hoppy Fischer for his service to our fire department, or nation and our community. His legacy reminds us that the spirit of service does not end when a uniform is put away.

Thank you for your service, Hoppy. You will never be forgotten!

Once a soldier, always a hero... Once a firefighter, always family.
