| The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for the Pleasant Valley Fire District, indicating a moderate risk of excessive rainfall from today, July 28, 2026, through Wednesday, July 29. Streams in the area may flood, which could also affect larger rivers.
Moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to move in from west to east starting this afternoon, with rainfall rates reaching or exceeding 1 to 2 inches per hour at times. This weather pattern will persist tonight and into Wednesday, with rain becoming showers by Wednesday night into Thursday. During this period, total rainfall amounts are expected to range from 1 to 3 inches, with some isolated locations possibly seeing 3 to 7 inches.
Even though the region has recently experienced dry conditions, heavy rainfall in a short time can still cause flash flooding, especially in areas with poor drainage or where repeated downpours occur. Residents are advised to be vigilant as water levels and flow rates can change quickly during a flood, often making conditions more hazardous.
Most flood-related fatalities happen in vehicles. It is impossible to determine the depth of water on flooded roads, and after water recedes, the ground may remain unstable. For safety, follow these precautions:
- Do not attempt to drive through a flooded road; turn around, do not drown.
- Never drive through barricades.
- Rising and fast-moving floodwaters can sweep vehicles away or cause loss of vehicle control.
- Stay out of floodwaters, as they can conceal hazards that may cause illness, injury, or death.
