Pleasant Valley Fire District firefighters, along with personnel from more than a dozen fire departments throughout Dutchess and Ulster counties, responded Wednesday to a large and challenging fire involving multiple connected buildings at the former Hudson River Psychiatric Center on North Road.

The significant blaze required a coordinated regional response as crews worked tirelessly to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading throughout the historic complex. Firefighters faced difficult conditions for several hours, utilizing both defensive and offensive firefighting strategies to bring the incident under control.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the dedicated members of the Pleasant Valley Fire District who spent much of their day operating at the scene, as well as those who staffed our fire stations to ensure continued emergency coverage for our community. Your commitment, professionalism, and service exemplify the strength of the fire service and the importance of mutual aid partnerships.

Thank you to all of the firefighters, EMS personnel, dispatchers, and support staff whose efforts helped protect lives and property during this major incident.
