Flag Burning Ceremony In Salt Point
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

June 15, 2021

Every year on June 14th, Americans celebrate Flag Day. Not surprisingly, it's considered the most appropriate day to hold flag disposal ceremonies.

The U.S. Flag Code says, “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.” When an American flag is worn beyond repair, it should be retired in a respectful manner.

Under dark, ominous clouds with a constant rain and thunder heard in the distance, Flag Day was remembered by the Pleasant Valley Fire District.

It was truly a community event, being sponsored by the Salt Point Fire Company, run by the Pleasant Valley/Millbrook American Legion, assisted by Scout Troop 33 and the Pleasant Valley Fire Department,

As a lone bagpiper played "Amazing Grace", a respectful and reverent ceremony was held.
