Ice Rescue Training |
| March 14, 2026 | |
| As winter comes to a close, the increase in daylight hours and warmer temperatures are welcome changes. However, these conditions also mark the beginning of a more dangerous period on local lakes and ponds within the Pleasant Valley Fire District, as ice begins to deteriorate quickly. Ice that was safe for winter activities earlier in the season may no longer be thick or stable. Rising temperatures, extended sunlight, and moving water can weaken ice, making it unpredictable and unsafe. Residents are strongly advised to avoid lakes and ponds as the risk of falling through the ice becomes greater with changing conditions. To prepare for possible emergencies, Pleasant Valley Fire District members recently completed ice rescue training during a beautiful cold evening drill. Firefighters reviewed specialized equipment and practiced techniques designed to safely remove individuals from icy water. Routine training like this ensures that Pleasant Valley firefighters remain ready to respond swiftly and effectively if an ice emergency occurs within the district. |
