| At approximately 1:00 PM on March 8, the Pleasant Valley Fire District was dispatched for reports of smoke coming from a residence on Hibernia Heights in Salt Point. Residents of the home reported hearing an explosion and observing an orange glow coming from their attached garage. Arriving chief officers confirmed an active fire in the garage and transmitted a code 10-75, which brings additional resources to the scene. Pleasant Valley firefighters made entry to the home and stretched a handline to the garage to combat the fire. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze and successfully contain it to the garage area, preventing damage to the living spaces of the home. Firefighters remained on scene to overhaul the garage and check for any remaining hot spots while the Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division conducted an examination of the incident. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. The scene was cleared and the building was returned to the homeowner at approximately 3:30 PM. The Pleasant Valley Fire District would like to thank the Arlington Fire District, East Clinton Fire District, Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division, Central Hudson Gas & Electric, New York State Police, and the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response dispatchers for their support and professionalism during this incident. Residents are reminded to ensure their homes have working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and that all family members are familiar with an emergency escape plan. Volunteers are always welcome to join our team.
