Night Ice Rescue Drill

Famous football coach Vince Lombardi once said “Practice does not make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect”. The saying is true in sports, but it is also true in the fire service.

In a fire district as large, approximately 35 square miles, as the Pleasant Valley Fire District, we are blessed with beautiful lakes and ponds. In the warm months they are very relaxing and enjoyable but in the colder months they can be deadly.

Ice that seems to be solid very often has locations that are not so solid. Because of that possibility, the members of the Emergency Services Division of the district need to be prepared for the worse case scenario…a person in the ice.

Last night, under the direction and guidance of ESS Captain Trevor Simoni members of the Pleasant Valley Fire Department made “perfect practice” of their ice rescue skills at Camp Nooteeming.
