On June 28th at 8:30 PM the Pleasant Valley Fire District was dispatched for an automatic fire alarm at the Family Circle Plaza located at 1903 Route 44 in Pleasant Valley. Arriving firefighters observed an active fire and smoke condition on the second floor, and the response was upgraded to a first alarm bringing additional resources to the scene.

Firefighters had to force open the door to the locked structure, and the small blaze was quickly controlled using a fire extinguisher. The smoke was ventilated from the structure and a thorough search was conducted to ensure no one was in the building.

The Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division was summoned to examine the scene, and were assisted by the New York State Police and Dutchess County Sheriff's Office. Investigators concluded that the fire was accidental in nature, but were unable to determine the exact cause. No injuries were reported and Pleasant Valley units were back in service by 11:45 PM.

The Pleasant Valley Fire District would like to remind residents to have working CO and smoke detectors in their homes and to have an evacuation plan in case of emergencies. Volunteers are always needed to be part of our team. Stop by our firehouses on Monday evenings at 6:30 pm or visit the “Join PVFD” section at PVFDNY.org.
