In Loving Memory Of Past Rescue Squad Captain John Cassidy

March 17, 2023

It is with deep sorrow that the Pleasant Valley Fire District has to share the passing of our brother firefighter and past Rescue Squad Captain John Cassidy.

At the age of 17, John became a Junior member of Hopewell Hose Fire Company of the East Fishkill Fire District. He held many positions there such as Lieutenant, Company Chief, and Rescue Squad Captain.

In 1990, he joined Pleasant Valley Fire District. John served his communities for almost 50 years working tirelessly to achieve the ranks of various line officer positions, most notably, Rescue Squad Captain in the Pleasant Valley Fire District.

Above all else, he loved to make people smile and laugh. His favorite saying was, “I should’ve been born rich instead of good looking.”

After retiring from IBM, he realized his true passion for helping others would be best utilized by securing a job with Northern Dutchess Paramedics.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, March 23, 2023, from 4 - 7 PM at Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main Street, Pleasant Valley, NY 12569. Firematic services will held at 6:30 PM

As John would always tell us, “Don’t say goodbye, say I’ll see you later.” He will truly be missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Tunnels to Towers Foundation.

The Pleasant Valley Fire District sends our deepest sympathies to the entire Cassidy family.

"May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand."

Rest In Peace Brother, we'll see you later!
