It is with profound sadness that the Pleasant Valley Fire District posts of the Line-of-Duty Death of Ex-Chief Stephen A. Feron of the Truck Company of the Hauppague Fire Department on Long Island. Chief Feron passed while operating at a training exercise with the Suffolk County Urban Search and Rescue Team last week.

Chief Feron was a member of the Suffolk County (Long Island, NY) USAR team, was attending a training program today on the use of personal watercraft in rescue operations at Smiths Point. Steve was on land side while a boat and the jetski were on the water side. He entered the water, which was on the rough side. After several attempts to clear the breaking waves he decided he would return to land a try again later. Shortly after resting he suffered a medical event. Immediate life saving measures were administered by other USAR members and life guards followed by EMS. Steve was transported to the hospital with vital signs but unfortunately succumbed later on.

He served on the county team as a member of the Hauppauge Fire Department. He is also former Chief-of-Department for Hauppauge.

Chief Feron was a second generation Chief of Department in Hauppauge serving from 2018 until 2019. His father, Stephen B. Feron, served as Chief of Department from 1985 through 1988.

Our condolences to all those affected. Rest In Peace Chief...
