On April 29th at approximately 10:11 pm the Pleasant Valley Fire District was dispatched for a structure fire at the Parksville Apartments located at 65 Parksville Road in Pleasant Valley.

Assistant Chief John Cronk arrived on scene within three minutes of the dispatch and confirmed a working fire. A second alarm was requested bringing additional resources to the scene.

Arriving firefighters found heavy smoke and fire in the basement extending to the first floor apartments. All residents had already evacuated the building and were accounted for. Two hoselines were stretched and the fire was quickly brought under control.

The fire apartments were heavily damaged and deemed uninhabitable by the building inspector. Adjacent apartments sustained smoke damage, and 11 people were displaced by the fire. No injuries were reported to either residents or firefighters.

Throughout the course of the incident over 50 firefighters from multiple departments assisted on scene. The cause and origin of the fire is currently under investigation by the Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division. Firefighters cleared the scene at approximately 1:49 am.

The Pleasant Valley Fire District is grateful for the assistance provided by the Arlington Fire District, LaGrange Fire District, Roosevelt Fire District, Millbrook Fire Department, Unionvale Fire District, Northern Dutchess Paramedics, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, Central Hudson Gas and Electric Corporation, and the Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division. During the incident Pleasant Valley stations were covered by the Roosevelt and East Clinton Fire Districts. The Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response Dispatchers and personnel provided ongoing support throughout the incident.

The Pleasant Valley Fire District would like to remind residents to have working CO and smoke detectors in their homes and to practice an evacuation plan in case of emergencies.
