New York State Department Of Transportation - Work Zone Awareness Week

April 12, 2022

The New York State Department of Transportation is recognizing National Work Zone Awareness Week this week.

It's important to be cautious all year round, but this week serves as a reminder to drivers to slow down and stay alert when approaching work zones on roads and highways.

According to the Federal Highway Administration, 117 workers were killed in construction zone crashes in 2020.

The DOT suggests drivers research their route before they leave to see if it is possible to avoid work zones.

People are reminded to be aware of their surroundings when behind the wheel and to keep an eye out for signs and workers in the area. They are also encouraged to avoid distractions, especially from electronic devices.

Another thing to consider is that penalties are increased for speeding in work zones.
