Injured Camper Rescued |
November 10, 2021 | |
On November 10, 2021 at approximately 7:20 AM, Pleasant Valley Fire District and Mobile Life were dispatched to the NYS Taconic/Hereford 909 for an injured overnight camper with unknown coordinates. Last known location was on the “Blue Trail”. This proved to be an extremely challenging situation given the topography of this multi-use recreation land. Using cell phone pings with DC 911, PVFD firefighter/EMT’s and NYSP hiked the terrain and were able to locate the injured hiker along the top of a rock ridge. The injured man was stabilized and treated on scene by PVFD EMT's while PVFD command utilized mutual aid resources to determine the safest way to rescue the patient. Union Vale FD provided assistance with their Rescue UTV and manpower to effectively extricate the injured patient from this remote area. NYS DEC Forest Rangers provided their excellent knowledge of the 909 property to guide the UTV off the ridge to the waiting Mobile Life paramedics. PVFD would like to take this opportunity to thank Union Vale Fire Department, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation - Division of Forest Protection , New York State Police, Mobile Life Support Services and Dutchess County Emergency Response for all their invaluable assistance. |
