P.V.F.D. Tunnel to Towers 5K Run And Walk

September 27, 2021

The Tunnel to Towers 5K Run and Walk through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel in honor of the fallen FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller returned to the streets of New York City this year. Like many events, the race was not held last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The event symbolizes Siller’s final footsteps when he abandoned his truck in Brooklyn and ran through the tunnel towards the towers after they were attacked, met up with his company and later died in the collapse.

Starting at the foot of the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers site, the 5K Run and Walk pays homage to the 343 FDNY firefighters, 71 law enforcement officers, and thousands of civilians who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

This year, roughly 30,000 people took part, including seven Pleasant Valley Fire District members.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, supporting first responders and wounded veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

Thanks to our members for attending and making sure we NEVER FORGET!
